about

Parable in the guise of epic fantasy.  One of the King's warriors returns from a completed quest to procure "gifts as requested for the Queen", with his own request to return to his home by the "Seventh Sea".  The King makes his return contingent upon one more quest, this time to bring word to the unreachable, mysterious "lady behind the glass".  The warrior dutifully dispatches his King's message, and speaks to the Lady, offering to help her find her Crystal Ring, which the King had cast into the Seventh Sea, and return her there at long last.

lyrics

Seven silent suns 'tween you and me my love
Seven strident journeys ‘pon the waves
Seven mysteries to plumb invoked by you my love
Seven histories and songs of ancient days

I have brought these gifts as requested for the queen
I solemnly lay them by her feet
If it please the king and there be no task left for me
May I take my leave return to the seventh sea

Seven rays of light I save for you my love
Seven channels the river meet the bay
Seven shallow sea that we can sail my love
Seven ways to drown beneath the waves

You may return after proving yourself equal to this task
Find a way to reach the lady behind the glass
Let her know I was discreet as I dug into her past
And I cast her crystal ring into the seventh sea

Seven dangers to brave in search of you my love
Seven swords and seven early graves
Seven cups of wine I pour for you my love
Seven thousand years in seven days

Oh, dear lady this glass may protect you from the king
Yet I know now where to look for your crystal ring
I am poor and I’m tired and I don’t expect a thing
But see you return at last to the seventh sea
Seven eagles flown at your desire my love
Seven hatchlings gone leaving the eighth
