GAZE
I sat down to gaze at your painting I never got over
These tears fill my belly I’m a traveller held at the border
Shut in a room with these gifts I should never have bought her
There’s a coffee stained dress and this crumb she just brushed off her shoulder
I woke up this morning to see you asleep in my bedroom
I’ve just made the same mistake you’ve seen me make over and over
Can’t seem to shake this old feeling common sense says I oughta
Been willing to wait twenty years I can't wait so much longer
As a point of consolation she is waiting for you son
Not immune to hesitation I don’t want to shoot no one
I’ve had dreams the sky is turning towards the golden light of dawn
Even as this shroud envelops and I’m plagued by mortal harm
The enemy crafty and cunning has been inwardly revealed
While I earn my bread by the sweat of my head she entices me to steal
Took a tour and the street where I searched was well lit and abandoned
You extended your hand to a man who had lost all his children
Can no longer remember why some people just can’t be forgotten
I just wanted to tell you you’re beautiful just like your daughter

KEDEIRA
I met a man as he was breathing
All across the barren land
He showed me how to be fruitful
As I take my final stand
Oh, I don't plan to leave you here
But I will do as I must
Step on a New York highway
Past fields of fire and rust
I've seen Kedeira in a dream
I've seen Kedeira in a dream
Trading skin like water
Turns bones grey unlike before
Yes, I like the lifestyle you furnished
As you showed me the exit door
This war leaves no survivors
Who know what they're surviving for
Night carried away by the calling
Back to you I'm drawn even more
I've seen Kedeira in a dream
I've seen Kedeira in a dream
When I come up on my fortune
I'll remember
You've been kind to me
While I sit in the corner
Recovering from a bender
I still remember what I'm meant to be
Folded in forbidden smiles
An expedition cast aside
Your love affair with this soldier
Got lost in the timeless a while
Dark precious hours
Are eating my flesh away
I tossed my prayer into the wind
I'll win you back someday
I've seen Kedeira in a dream
I've seen Kedeira in a dream

NECHAMA
Have you ever held a candle in your hand
While peeking through a crevice in the sand
bearing witness to a vision too compelling to withstand
Nechama why'd you come back again
Out driving in the country with a friend
We watch you disappearing round the bend
Momma cries into the mailbox
Each letter you do not send
Nechama why'd you come back again
Still believe that while you're all alone
You'd think to pick up the phone
Where the road out meets the rider
Do you save yourself for the right man
Or end up with your back on the wrong bed
Did you ever grab a lever as you ran
Watched a sliding steel door exit opening
And your memory of the vision
A good place for you to land
Nechama why'd you come back again

PLEASING
So you’re sitting by yourself
Have your heart up on a shelf
Never beating ‘til you show some folks around
Just as everything with breath
Wish to live with no regret
As it was before the common world knocked you down
While pretending to be a brother
Now before you get all sad
Over something that you never had
Take a look at what’s in front of you no longer
Do you see a man that’s brave
For at least the time he’s not afraid
Of the heart that’s now been taken down
And passed around to the blade they prepare for slaughter
And his dreams are all he has
Until you call me Hear me say
I wish you’d call me
Tell me that every thing’s OK
Well hello there my old friend
How’ve I been I didn’t know you cared
I’ve been thinking about sowing some seeds this spring
Just like everything you said
These words they rattle round my head
I’m still working on my masterpiece
Just like Van Gogh and Charlie Parker
And their dreams are all they had
Why don’t you call me Hear me say
Why don't you call me
I can almost hear you say
I never left you slipped away
Just like water down the drain
In a steady stream
That now flows cold and slow
I may not deserve the best
But I cannot bear this test
How can I serve you
If you leave me so alone
Why don’t you call me
I’ll be pleasing you at home

SUBWAY STATION
On your own for the first time
Holding court beside a stream
They let you go up on the mountain
Until you disappeared in green
Forge of fire has given birth
To a sword of golden twine
Mirror sees me facing her
Naked river flowing wine
Somebody told me that freedom for you
No longer held such gripping fascination
Why don't you let your old fears slip away
Meet me at the subway station
This helpless day
An empty palate on which I paint
The scenes I see around you
Through a mist of passing rain
When time takes on the rhythm
Of an open spinning cage
Are you waiting for me Momma
Like a bookmark on the page
Where we'll read that freedom for you
May once again hold thorough fascination
Why don't you let your old fears slip away
Meet me at the subway station
Inspiration sister
Brother drowning in the sea
Find hidden shores beneath our feet
To step on casually
Time stretches on before me
Sometimes rolling down the hill
Whatever your impression
I'll keep on rolling 'til
You tell me that freedom is for you
A pervasive spark of good old fascination
Why don't you let your old fears slip away
Meet me at the subway station

THE TRIAL
Let's say everyone's looking at you
Say everyone's doing what you want them to do
I'll tell you a secret
that's for her ears to hear it
To sigh away
And sigh away
The Trial
I've gone away a long time behind you
I've tried to do what you want me to do
Could not believe it
That she knew our secret
To sigh away
And sigh away
The Trial
I want nothing from you
Nothing you wanted me not to want too
I need all of you touched by the wind
What your skin hides within
It's your skin that is scaring me
That is tearing me
Out of my own
I've had lifetimes to satisfy you
Until even the nighttime is satisfied too
It's just for a moment
that our two hands can hold it
To sigh away
And sigh away
The Trial
you know when times get tough
What you got ain't enough
hard times bringing you down
a little sigh'll bring you to higher ground

LOVING BY THE MOONLIGHT
Work by day back by night
Before dawn to treat you right
Oh, Loving by Moonlight
Got a hunger you fulfill
Left my keys on your windowsill
Oh, while the Moon shines clear and still
Moonlit trees Moonlight songs
I feel the need to linger on
Take my heart don’t give it back
Until you get your fill
Gaze at me with both eyes shut
Feel your body waking up
Oh, pour your Moonlight in my cup
Treacherous seas we’ll shake it off
Bitter winds blown by frost
Oh, is the Moon alone enough
Moonlit trees Moonlight songs
Still the need to linger on
Taking hearts won’t pull back
This emptiness you feel
Sudden breeze reaches us
Cools the fever feeling lost
Oh, used the Moonlight at what cost
Through gazing eyes connection broken
We take our leave no kind words spoken
Oh, while the Moon shines on the ocean
Moonlit trees Moonlight songs
There is no need to linger on
You took my heart won’t give it back
Until you get your fill
Work by day back by night
Before dawn to treat you right
Oh, Loving by Moonlight
